The incredibe dissapearing bridesmaid

Please excuse the incredibly lame title for this post-
Hello out there in blog land. Its me again. Back to try another stab at this. As you know I kind of dropped the ball on my blog about 7 months ago and I am just picking it back up now. I was spending some time with my good friend Lauren who, along with her husband, has an amazing and hilarious blog ( go check it out at www.jesseandlauren.com) and she kind of inspired me to give this another shot.So  I may not be the funniest blogger or the one with the best writing and spelling skills, so what, I say, I enjoyed doing it so here goes nothing!

So as you can guess the wedding that was the reason for this blog has come and gone. On August 27th of this year two of my best friends got married! Erika looked stunning and Andrew was oh so handsome. I laughed, I cried (a lot) and ate a ton of pizza...



And I haven't stopped eating since. Since the wedding I have gained about 15lbs (this is where you all look at me with shameful glares) and I feel yucky. I really do think yucky is the best word to describe it. I just don't have an much energy or enthusiasm for life, which I will be needing come
 Jan 10th when I start my last semester of school (yay!) with 17 credits (not yay)

Also one of my other best friends, Ms. Ashley Johnson ( who is to the left of me in the above photo and served as co- maid of honor with me for the Boyer-Kern nuptials)  just go engaged recently and I will be a bridesmaid in her wedding come August. So really the purpose for the blog hasn't changed much, same goal, same month, different wedding.

Now to really tempt me right away I have to go bake 4 batches of cookies, yikes! Not to mention the insane weekend of holiday celebrations coming up. I have Hanukkah with my Dad's family on Friday (Latkes, yummm), then Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! ahhh! I guess my best is all I can do, right?

Ooops

Well here I am, many weeks have passed since my last post and I have decided that I will no longer promise you more frequent posts. I will post when I feel like it. I want this blog to be something i enjoy and feeling pressure (from myself) to keep it constantly updated is to much, and I have obviously failed.  Anyway....
It is now week 2 of summer "vacation". Considering I am working about 45hours a week it isn't really vacation, but now that the snow is officially gone (knock on wood) and the days are sunny and long,  I am happy as a clam.

I officially started Weight Watchers a few weeks ago, I have my second weigh in tonight so wish me luck! I must say that although I was really hesitant about the new program, I am loving Points Plus. I feel so good inside and out when I eat as many fruits and veggies as this program allows.

I (as usual) and still struggling to get in the amount of physical activity that I should, and the fact that my tennis shoes are in the cities and not here with me doesn't help much. But I am going to make that my next goal, I will start to work out AT LEAST 3 times a week. I think that is good to start with.


And with that I must get back to work. I am currently on my lunch break eating a delicious salad. Romain lettuce, chicken breast, cucumbers, tomatoes and red. fat blue cheese crumbles with a yummy raspberry balsamic vinaigrette.  Yuum

Im Back!

Wow, I seem to be starting a habit of waiting way to long between blog posts. I promise I will try to change that and update more often. The last few weeks where just insanely busy with tons of school work and working a lot.WARNING: This post will be full of links, you may chose to follow or not follow them, I am just in the mood to link!
I wanted to start by saying happy Passover to any fellow Jewish or half Jewish folks out there. And happy Easter to all you fellow Christians and half Christians. My family held their Passover Seder last night at my Aunt's house but I was unable to attend. I do plan on making myself some Matzo Ball Soup for dinner tonight since it is by far my favorite part of Passover. I will be using a mix by Manischewitz. The best part is that one serving is only 40 calories! Yumm!

I am also very excited for Easter this weekend. My family is celebrating at our cabin this year! It has been 9 months since I have been up there and I cannot wait to see this view again!

A few weeks ago some friends an I did something really fun. Erika, The lovely bride to be, Elizabeth and Duckrt and I all enjoyed a delicious dinner together. I thought of the food, the 3 of them bought the grocery's, and then I cooked for all of them and had them over for a little dinner party. It was a great time, the food was amazing (if i  do say so myself) and we will definitely be doing it again.

I have decided to try something a little different with my "dieting" I am trying something other than Weight Watchers GASP I know! Don't get me wrong I absolutely love Weight Watchers and I know if I could afford to actually re join and attend meetings/ get all the new information and supplies I could totally rock it. But since I am a poor college student I decided to try something different and see how it goes. I have joined a free website calls Fat Secret which my good friends and fellow bloggers Lauren & Jesse told me about. It is similar to WW's E Tools but it doesn't use points or anything, just keeps track of your nutritional info. Yesterday was my first day using it any I really like it. I did go over my calorie goal,partially since I had some delicious Jake's Pizza for dinner. But I think once I get used to it a bit more it might really work! And I am hoping that this summer when i am working a bit more I can afford to join WW again, at least for a month of 2 before the wedding!

Project Bridesmaid Dress

Is anyone else feeling totally renewed and inspired by this wonderful weather? It is 55 degrees out right now and I am loving it. It has helped reawaken my drive to live a healthier life. I spent a huge chunk of my day outside yesterday being active and having fun. And I have been eating pretty well too! I just finished a yummy sandwich that I made, Pastrami on wheat bread with spicy mustard, tomato, cucumbers, romaine lettuces and a slice of cheese. I had some sugar snap peas with it. Yummy. So I tried my bridesmaid dress on yesterday for the first time in about a month. I think i should start trying it on whenever I am in a bit of a slump. I really hate the way I look in in right now and trying it on is a great motivation for me to keep up the healthy lifestyle. Whenever I am tempted to eat something I know I shouldn't I just need to think of that dress and how good I want to look in it. Erika deserves to have the best looking (co) maid of honor and I need to deliver.

Do any of you have inspiring pictures up in your kitchen to help sway you from eating to much/often/ the wrong thing? I currently have "skinny" photos of me all over the kitchen. But I think it might really help if I also put up some photos of me from a few years ago when I was really fat, in order to remind myself what I don't want to happen. What do you think? I figure it couldn't hurt right?


On a wedding related note (since that's what this blog is all about right) I accompanied our wonderful Bride and Groom, along with the grooms parents and the brides wonderful mother (Hi Rita!) to pick out tuxes last weekend. I think what we ended up picking out is going to look great for the fun summer wedding. The chose a sort of taupe/ light gray with vests and ties that will match our cornflower bridesmaids dresses. It was really fun and I was so glad to help out :)

Insert catchy title here

Hello out there. Sorry it has been a while, I had a crazy week. I was incredibly busy every single day and my eating habits took a big hit because of it. I kinda of had to eat what I could when I could which wasn't usually very healthy. I also had absolutely no time to work out. I was pretty ashamed and embarrassed of my terrible week and I wasn't going to blog about it but my Mom told me that this would be the best time to blog and get every ones support. So I am going to try my best this week and get back on track. The only problem is I am extremely short of money right now so I cant really afford to go get grocery's. That means I will be getting creative with the food I do have. I will try to document my successes and failures on here. Please leave any words of encouragement you may have, I can use all the help I can get.

"Scale... We Have A Problem"

YAY for a new layout! Thanks so much to my wonderful friend and fellow blogger Katy (Aka Olivia) for making it for me. Isn't it great! It is themed around the wedding that I am the maid of honor for this summer (the reason for the blog)

So I discovered something today that I am worried about. Some of you who have been to my apt before will remember that the floors aren't exactly level. I live in the top floor of a very old house that is on a hill and the floors just aren't what they used to be. I have learned to live with it and see it now as a fun little quirk. But I went to weigh myself today and it said the exact same weight that it has the last 3 or 4 times I have weighed myself. Now this isn't that strange, but I really felt like I would be down a bit today. So I moved the scale to another spot in my apt, suddenly I am 20 lbs heavier, what the heck!?!?  I try another spot, 5lbs less than the first time. Now mind you I am poor and cant afford a digital scale so I use an old fashioned dial one. So I got out my level (thanks Dad) and crawled around my apt looking for the flattest spot (I give you all permission to picture this in your heads and laugh at it if you would like) I found a sort of flat spot and weighed myself there, I guess that will be my new weigh in spot. Or maybe I will just use the scale at the gym.

Who else is excited for Saint Patrick's Day tomorrow?!?!?! If you can all recall I do not have school on Fridays so I plan to do a bit of celebrating. A Guiness is about 4 points and totally worth it (I can only drink 1 anyway) The only thing missing will be my Moms corned beef and cabbage, yummy!

Spring Broken...Time to Fix it!

Wow, ten days since my last post, sorry to all my loyal readers who I am sure have been anxiously anticipating my next post. I have been on spring break which I unfortunately turned into lazy and unproductive break. I manged to not only procrastinate with my school work and leave it all for today. But I also allowed my apt to become incredibly messy as well as totally slacking on my weight loss efforts. But that all ends NOW!

Or rather, as soon as I am finished writing this. I am spending the day cleaning my apt, trying Jillian Michael's 30 Day shred for the first time and then I will be heading to the library and working on two projects.

So although there is no question that I did not eat the best food that I could this week, I did make one pretty tasty meal that I will share with you now. This was another meal that I used no recipe for, just sort of made it up. I got the inspiration from this post from one of my favorite blogs.

To start I cooked up a chicken breast and cubed it into small pieces. Set that aside. Sauteed some garlic, onion, zucchini and bell peppers and a can on chickpeas with a little olive oil and the yummy jalfrezi simmer sauce. Meanwhile in a separate sauce pot I cooked up some basmati rice. Then i added the cooked cubed chicken to the fry pan and let it all simmer together for a while. Served the stuff up on top of the rice and had some yummy naan bread along with it.

I was pretty pleased with his meal. It was my first try at Indian food and it was quite tasty. If I make it again I think I will try a spicier curry sauce, possibly madras because the jalfrezi just didn't have quite enough flavor for me.

Spring Has Sprung??

Well maybe not yet, but it is officially spring break for this girl! As of 2:50 this afternoon it is party time. Well that's not really true either. But it is a full week off of school! I will be staying here is MN, visiting my family for a couple days, but the main event will be this Saturday! Schells Bockfest!  It will be an amazing day or Beer, Polka and possibly a bratwurst.

But what I really want to talk about today is someone who means the world to me. This wonderful woman has helped shape the person I am and influences me every day. That's right, you guessed it MY MOM!

 I talked to my mom on the phone tonight and she said the craziest thing. She told me that after discovering my blog it has helped inspire her to get back on the health eating wagon. WHAAAT?!? Me inspiring her. This, the woman who all my life has inspired me to be the best person I can. And now I am helping inspire her. Well that's just wonderful! A few years ago, when I did weight watchers and lost over 45 lbs, my mom and I did it together and we where both very successful.  I am so excited she and I are both working at this again. My mom is always there for me no matter what I need. Weather it is an answer to a cooking question (she taught me everything I know), advise on working with my (sometimes very unreliable) group members for school, or just a listening ear. I am sure she is reading this so Mom I LOVE YOU!  Good luck, cant wait to see you on Sunday.

A very blustery (Tues)Day

If you are a Glee fan like me you are probably a little bummed right now since there is no Glee tonight :( I need my Mr. Shoe fix! But other than that I had an excellent day!

Breakfast:
Cinnamon Raisin Bagel Thin with reduced fat cream cheese I absolutely love these things and this was a new flavor that I hadn't tried before, it was delish.

Workout:
Speed walked around the track for 1 mile with 5lb weights, ran on the arc trainer for 20 min, did some arm and ab weight training.

Mid Morning Snack:
2 clementines, love those little things!

 Lunch:
Fat Free tortilla with fat free re-fried beans, tomatoes, jalapenos and reduced fat cheese. I also put some taco bell hot sauce on that bad boy (thanks MSU for having a Taco Bell in site)

Afternoon Snack:
Sea salt pita chips with roasted red pepper hummus

Dinner:
I baked some chicken tenders and dipped them in home made honey mustard (mixed spicy brown mustard with honey) also had some carrot sticks

All and all a pretty good day, I didn't eat all the fruits and veggies that I should have but I still feel really good about how I did!

Yum Yum Yum in my Tum Tum Tum

Ok so I love to cook and I have been know to whip up something without a recipe quite often but I think I outdid myself tonight. Holy cow, I am seriously impressed with myself. Don't worry I will get to my outstanding meal and tell you all about it but first I thought I should give a very quick rundown of my weekend.
It went alright. I had a few slip ups on Friday night but I think I have since made up for it.Got Chipotle last night for dinner, had a bowl with chicken and black beans and lots of veggies.... yumm  

Ok so back to the dinner to die for. I was inspired by this recipe but I altered it quite a bit. Keep in mind this is a serving for one person. And it is a pretty huge serving.

So to start I sauteed garlic (about 2 cloves,I love garlic) basil (about a Tbl spoon), salt and pepper, asparagus (1/2 a bunch), mushrooms(about a cup, sliced) and Shrimp (3oz) in olive oil and fresh squeezed lemon juice (1/4 of a lemon). I actually sauteed the garlic and basil for a while before adding the other stuff, and squeezed the lemon juice over the top of everything. I sauteed all that for about 10-15 min or so (stirring occasionally)
on medium heat.

Meanwhile I cooked a serving worth (1 cup I think,whatever it says on the box) of whole wheat bow tie pasta.  When pasta finished cooking I drained it and tossed it with everything else in the skillet and dumped it all on my plate, topped it with a little bit of parmesan cheese and dug in.

And oh readers let me tell you it was sooo good. So much flavor! I have a terrible habit of salting things way to much when I eat and I didn't add any extra salt to this. It didn't need it! If  When I make this again, I will use less olive oil, maybe like 2 or 3 times around the pan. I ended up with sort of a pool of olive oil on my plate when I was all done. But other than that is was pretty much perfect.

Spit up and Ice cream cake

Today is Friday which means I don't have class and instead spent the day working nearly 10 hours at the daycare. I work in the infant room and today was insane. We had sick babies, cranky babies, dirty babies, and one who seemed to injure himself every 5 min. I have spit up on my shirt and pants and found "puffs" in my hair when I got home. Needless to say when 2 o'clock rolled around and one of the preschoolers had ice cream cake for her birthday, I caved. In my own defense I took a very tiny sliver, and I have since looked up the nutritional data and logged it/ felt the guilt rush over me. But I am now letting it go. It was one slip up in an otherwise excellent (food) day, and I still have plenty of weekly bonus points to cushion the blow.

Now I am going to go get a little dolled up (meaning put some actual makeup on, take my hair out  of a pony tail and put some clothes on other than sweatpants) and go to happy hour with some friends, Where I will consume low calorie beverages such at rum and diets or lite beers, and try with all my might to resist any appetizers that may be purchased by my fellow happy hourers. Wish me luck!

Hello Out There

How Exciting, my first blog post. So I will start out with a little info about me and why I decided to start this blog. My name is Suzannah and I am 25 years old. I live alone and I go to school for Recreation Parks and Leisure Services and I am a single lady (put your hands up). Well that's enough boring "who am I" info for now.

Now on to the question on every one's minds "Why would Suzy start a blog?" Well there are many reasons folks! Well the first is that I am (co)maid of honor in my best friend Erika's wedding in August and I would really like to lose some weight before then, and I thought that blogging about my efforts, struggles and anything else I may want to talk (vent) about would add a fun and helpful twist!

I have had a lot of fun lately updating facebook with my health meals that I have been cooking and eating and I thought this would be a good venue for me to do the same and possibly expand on what I make and how I make it.

Now I will be the first to admit that I am no writer, but I think it is fun to write and that is what a blog is for right. I am sure this blog will end up with a lot of stuff other than just weight loss stuff but just bear with me people!

One final note, I absolutely love and welcome any helpful hints, tips secrets, food finds, life lessons and anything else you wanna throw down in that comment box.
